in order to only download the mail heders, one MUST use a protocol that
supports that (e.g. 'imap'), or implement its onw proprietary protocol on
top of 'rsh' (assuming the user has a shell account and has access to the
mail box file from that shell account). the POP protocol only allows you
to see the _sizes_ of the letters (in bytes).
now, as far as i know, pine supports imap, but NOT in offline mode (At
least not the pine i am using, i think v4.10). netscape does support an
offline mode of this type. i'd assume that outlook express has the same
kind of support, though i never tried that.
