I usually use XF86Setup - it's graphical, and has far better
coustomisation options then Xconfigurator

You mean, "resulotion" for the first number, and "Vertical Sync" for the
second number ? then say so.

No way you get a 100x100 resulution.

<cynic>I don't think that ATI manufacture Voodoo cards</cynic>
- possibly uou have a 3dfx card ?
Also - what kind of 17" display you have ? I can't believe it only does
50-90 Hz VSync, since my 15" Daewoo does 45-120 Hz VSync - look in your
monitor's manual to see what it's _real_ VSync range is.

Last time I messed with a Voodoo ]I[ card, I wasn't able to make XF86Setup
work for it (which is wierd, coz it works with any other card I've ever
tried... and I've tried it on lots of cards).
so , what I did is to run Xconfigurator, tell it that I have a Custom
monitor (If the exact version of your monitor appears on the list you can
choose that, but don't try to guess - if it's not on the list - choose
custom) and in the next two screens, choose something which is as close
to your monitor specs as possible (as it's written in the monitor's
manual) if you can't hit it exactly, choose something with less
capebilities, not more.
after Xconfigurator probes the display it offers you it's choise of video
mode, and allows you to customize - don't do it : just hit "use the
default" and OK everything else.
after you do that, open /etc/X11/XF86Config with your favorite text
editor, find the 'Section "Monitor"' line , and change the 'HorizSync' and
'VertRefresh' lines to be exacatly as it's says in your monitor manual.
then goto to 'Section "Screen"' and make sure that 'DefaultColorDepth'
says 32 . if it's not - change it.
now, in the same section , under the 'SubSection "Display"' where it says
'Depth 32' (only that subsection - ignore the other "Display"
subsections), in the 'Modes' line , take the last entry (the one with the
highest resulution number) and move it to be the first entry - right after
the word 'Modes' (make sure you keep the outlook of that line- all the
spaces and " where their supposed to be).
now , save it and start your X . it should work fine - you should get the
max resolution you can on the screen . you can now switch modes by
pressing CTRL-ALT-KeyPadPlus to go to the next resolution, or
CTRL-ALT-KeyPadMinus to go to the previos resolution.
Have fun
