I think, I can describe this strange behavior :-)
Only thing you needed to do is to do
make xconfig/xonfig in kernel directory.
It creates some very importent architecture links
in the directory three. Without it no <asm> include
would work. Seems strange that RH not thought about it :-)

P.S. Anybody have any experience with software RAID-0
(strippining), huge Ext2 filesystems and RH 6.1 ?
