My mail account is two telnets away,
and ftp-ing my whole mailbox is simply not practical.
So I have implemented a system of buffers:
When I need to do processing on a particular
message, I save it in Mail under its current
number in the queue, and ftp it to my own
machine under that number. This number stays with
the message throughout processing (including ftp-ing
back and ~r in Mail, if necessary).
All those buffers have to live at the top
user level of both machines (to minimize cd's).
Everything else lives in directories
so I can rm all my buffers safely , and without -i.

I thought you might enjoy this piece
of conceptual design
