Dear Friends,
The official ILUG position is no help for newbies, but I am happy to say
that several members have been most helpful to me.
It may just be a matter of approach.

I do not remember ever having seen a claim for Linux support, but I remember
seeing it mentioned somewhere. I called Netvision, and they were most
helpfull in getting my system to dialup correctly. They didn't get it
exactly correct, and I had to get supplementary explanations from you, and
from SuSE support, but they did try.

I can't imagine what "sucks hard" or "sux" is supposed to mean in the
context of telephone support, but once again my experience with MS Israel
has been most satisfactory. I am not running a LAN or Server. My problems
(in Windows and in Linux) have to do with operating a SOHO system. MS Israel
has always been most helpful in solving my sometimes rather complicated
multilingual problems.

Technet is not always sufficient when problems are complex, and someone who
knows where to find and read the "man" page can be of help. It may be that
my problems' solutions were all in Technet, but I am thankfull to the
support people at MS for reading the solutions to me, and interpreting them.
These different levels of need and complexity apply also to the problems I
have now with Linux. The system seems to be satisfactory exactly for the
folks who are running servers and administrating LAN's and who are unhappy
with the levels of support. I represent the next generation of Linux people
who are trying to make the OS work for desktop applications. Clearly it is
not yet ready for that role. With your help, I have been struggling to learn
the system and bend it to my needs, but there is no way currently it will be
able to replace my Windows for relatively straightforward multilingual word
processing and integrated graphics. I thought it was, and frankly I'm
disappointed, but I continue to learn and be grateful for your help and
direction.
In the meantime, don't be too harsh on Netvision and MS Israel. For certain
customers (me) they have been very helpful indeed.
