new kernel compiling error

Hi. I'm installing linux-2.2.12 kernel. in the make bzImage (or make zImage) i get the following error : make[1]: as86: Command not found make[1]: *** [bbootsect.o] Error 127 make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot' make: *** [bzImage] Error 2   What do i need to do in order to fix it ? why did it occour ?   Thanks,   Mike
