This will be a monthly posting from now on. In case you're
wondering, the first two capitalized sentences won't EVER be
taken away. -- Vadik.

BEFORE POSTING TO THE LIST, YOU MUST READ THIS MESSAGE AND
THE Linux-IL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FILE. VIOLATORS WILL
BE FLOGGED WITH A DIFFERENTIAL SCSI CABLE BY MARC.

The Frequently Asked Questions file is available at the

--- About this Mailing List ---
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This mailing list is intended for discussions related to Linux usage in
Israel, including, but not limited to

- Announcements and discussions concerning the activities of the Israeli
Linux Users' Group (see below for more information about ILUG).
- Using Hebrew in Linux.
- Availability in Israel of CD-ROMs and books about Linux.
- Difficult technical questions, which require the assistance of experts.

This mailing list is NOT intended to help new linux users. There are many,
many, MANY, documents / mailing lists / newsgroups / forums that do just
that. Linux-IL is NOT one of them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
--- Guidelines for Posting to Linux-IL ---
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

DO post your technical question to the list, after you have exhausted
      all other means, such as:
      - Tried to look into it yourself.
      - Read the documents and manuals.
      - Looked in the web sites.
      - Asked your linux loving friends.
      - Scanned the list archives (available through our web sites)
      - Privately emailed Linux-IL Gurus (see the FAQ).
      - Asked in International forums.

DO mention everything that might be relevant to the technical
      question you post:
      - What linux distribution you have (slackware, redhat, debian.. ?)
      - What kernel version do you run?
      - What is the version of the problematic software?
      - What is the make and model of relevant hardware?
      - What is the exact error message you get (use cut and paste)?
      - What is the exact command line you are running that causes this
        error?
      - Attach relevant configuration files, if they are not too big.

DO post the solution to a difficult problem you solved to the list,
and summerize the replies you have received via private email that
may interest other people. Remember, another Israeli linux user is
baffled by the same problem right now and will benefit from your
answer. Linux users in the future will scan the archive and find
the summary to your problem - which will be very similar to their.

DON'T post non-ASCII MIME attachments. This includes HTML, Microsoft
      Word[tm] documents, text/x-vcard and application/ms-tnef (whatever
the hell these are), and other non-ASCII formats. E-mail is for
      text messages.

DON'T post messages like "I agree" without contributing in them to the
discussion in question. This lowers the signal to noise ratio of the
list and scares people away because they don't have time to deal
      with the high message volume.

DON'T post replies that can be private to the whole list. When your mailer
asks you whether to reply to all recipiants, answer "No" unless you
have a good reason for the whole list to see your reply.

DON'T attach large files in mailings to the list. Mention in your message
that you will mail them privately for people who ask you to mail them.
People not interested in that file won't have to download it -
remember, many people pay by size of mails, hours of staying online
and downloading time to bezeq and to their ISPs (Internet Service
      Providers).

If you are a new Linux user, we would like you to utilize the resources
available through the Linux-IL web site, http://www.linux.org.il
before turning to the list.
