you have no reason to feel you're "doomed" - some of us prefer using
text-mode and command line tools in every day life. as my flat-mate
puts it "well, you got this new and graphical environment for what? so you
could open dos boxes?".

so i say - command line users of the world - unite! and take over!

seriously, i admit that being unable to use something makes one want to
use it even more. i just think that as _tools_, the loss is less then the
adantage gained.
