All linuces which use lilo:
boot: linux init=/bin/bash
at lilo prompt.
where linux is the name of kernel.
RedHat (5.x 6.0 , not sure about earlier versions) provides a particulary
easy way to break in:
boot: linux s
You can use a "rescue disk", and try to rescue a root partition.
