I think that getting familiar with popular editors ((X)Emacs, vi, joe)
available on Linux can be a good idea, since a large portion time of
an average Linux user is spent inside one of them...

Working with shells (ksh, bash, csh) is another idea (if it isn't
included in your basic/advanced environment parameters).

Generally, expect to be overwhelmed by the number of propositions :-)
