Perl is also widely used, but I don't have statistics.

I know that the competition between Perl and PHP3 became a religious
war, like KDE-GNOME, and other wars. In many cases that a decision
between those two had to be taken, the decision maker wrote a document
to describe his considerations and reasons for not choosing the other
alternative. You can find such documets everywhere, like in Slashdot
(Rob "apologizes" for choosing Perl over PHP), and even the original
author of PHP tries to explain why he had to develop PHP and could not
rest with Perl.
