i was wondering if there are enough people here interested in setting up a
small "studying" club for linux/unix programming (and administration) in
the haifa area.

copying from some other club i accidentally found while notifying about
the LUPG site (i never claimed i'm original), such a club would have a
bi-weekly (i.e. once every two weeks) meetings, in whcih people will carry
out short (or long) lectures about interesting topics. that could range
from 'how to use perl to tweak the resolv.conf file if i connect to
several networks', to 'serial ports programming', to 'programming for a
beowolf cluster' to whatever comes to mind. also, various public debates
could form up, e.g. "when one should use perl, or python, or eiffel", or
"how could one set up a linux machine to be daily administered by a
non-techi person", etc.

naturally, the people involved will also be the people who lecture, in a
combined attempt to learn new things... i myself like learning things from
written material, but i know that a good introduction from someone with
experience could later on save hours when reading material.

if anyone is interested in forming such a club, please write me directly.
note that i'm interested in haifa, not in tel aviv. if people would wish
to form such a thing in tel aviv (or jerusalem), i'd be glad, but leave
that to someone from those areas to manage.
