The mercurial link gives you a direct tar ball from source.

It's over 6 months old. I cannot recommend that anyone keeps running
something older than the open / interim builds, except in controlled
environments.

Not really. See bugzilla - that should be as close to the release
stoppers as is known at this time.

Alan's current job is keeping him very busy. I respect his (implied)
wish to control the release as he sees fit, even though I do disagree
with him on a number of points on how the project should be run.
But at the same time, I do strongly suggest that people consider running
more recent code.
Luckily, we've got a pretty powerful build system to provide packages
for the major targets, and a very powerful source control system to give
easy access to the tarballs for other architectures.
