FAI is the version available in the Debian bookworm repository, ie. fai-quickstart 6.0.3+deb12u1 and its dependencies. This is a fresh install, I am using a PXE environment.

There was a bug when mixing old FAI configs with a new FAI version that
no disks are detected if the block device does
not belong to the group disk.
On my machine this looks like that:

$ ls -l /dev/nvme0n1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 259, 0 Oct 20 19:50 /dev/nvme0n1

How does it look in your FAI environment?

different:

root@zendis01:/# ls -al /dev/nvme*
crw------- 1 root root 245, 0 Nov  7 09:18 /dev/nvme0
brw------- 1 root root 259, 0 Nov  7 09:18 /dev/nvme0n1
brw------- 1 root root 259, 1 Nov  7 09:18 /dev/nvme0n1p1
brw------- 1 root root 259, 2 Nov  7 09:18 /dev/nvme0n1p2
brw------- 1 root root 259, 3 Nov  7 09:18 /dev/nvme0n1p3
root@zendis01:/#

I can happily confirm that the issue is gone after adding the FAI repo to sources.list and dist-upgrading the system, FAI is now 6.2.3 .

Thank you for the pointer,
Thoralf.
