actually fai-debconf is doing quite well, it was all my fault. I was mocked by a TAB that was transmogrified into separate spaces by cut&paste. I used the output of getconf-get-selections (TAB separated fields) to feed my fai debconf config file. By cut&paste the TAB separator was transformed into two spaces. Debconf interpreted this input as two whitespace separators with an empty field in between and fell back to a default value (here: local delivery only). This was also the default deboconf value from FAIBASE, so I blamed fai-debconf for this flaw until I realized what really happened here. Sorry to bother you all. Cheers, Thomas
