All other kernels 2.6.0-2.6.3 worked quite fine, reception is stable with the same hardware.
Just for testing purposes I replaced drivers/media/dvb/frontends/stv0299.c from the 2.6.5 distribution by the same file from 2.6.3 dist. The receiption became stable again.

In this particular case, I was only the maintainer that assembled the patches and forwarded them to Linus.
