Hello everybody,
I'm trying to use Deutsche Telekom's "T-DSL via Satellit", an account which -despite its name- has nothing to do with DSL, but does boost-up low bandwith connections with a local proxy software by using Astra DVB-S to have a broadband downstream channel. (I just mention that to make clear that I really don't want to watch TV, I just need the network device.)
My setup is kernel 2.4.23, bttv 0.9.12, and dvb-kernel taken fresh from CVS on sunday. dvbtune is from the Debian package, 0.3+cvs20030922-2 The machine is an older K6 133MHz with 64MB RAM which sits in a closet serving as the headless router for my home LAN.
Everything went fine so far, the modules are loaded successfully:

When I try to tune the card with dvbtune, I get FE_TIMEDOUT and cannot lock the frequency:
# dvbtune -c 0 -f 10773250 -p H -s 22000 -n 251 Using DVB card "Conexant CX24110 with CX24108 tuner, aka HM1221/HM1811" tuning DVB-S to L-Band:-1073742492, Pol:H Srate=22000000, 22kHz=off polling.... I've done RTFM thoroughly but didn't find any solution. The Metzler drivers don't help, their cx24110 module seems to be outdated. I didn't find out how to configure the card with szap, if that comes to someones mind (I dont wanna TV, wanna network).
You can use szap also for non-TV channels too, just set audio and video PID for your data transponder to 0 or 0x1fff. Since szap is much more verbose in case of troubles than dvbtune I'd suggest you to use this tool for debugging - as soon you have a reliable stream you can start to configure your network connection.
Have you tried to tune to other transponders, has this worked?
