Problems with 2.4.15 (aka 2.5.0)

Summary: There is a bug in latest 2.4 kernel version - also
known as 2.5.0 - that supposedly corrupts filesystems. from the kernel
mailing list. 2.4.15 eats files. DON'T USE IT.
