We had a beloved “neighborhood” cat.
He technically lived with us, but, occasionally did a “walk-about.”
It turns out, he was moving in with other folks for some extended periods
often-days, weeks, even a month here and there.
He was known to boot existing residents off beds.
Sometimes, he would be recognized, and I would get a call.
Sometimes, he just reappeared.
And, sometimes, I would see him on a road (not ours)-I would stop the car, call
him and he would hop into the front seat, place his paws on the dashboard and
have me drive him home…where he hopped out and sauntered inside as if nothing
was amiss.

He was also known for sleeping on his back in the middle of the road, feet in
the air.
It was terrifying, until I realized, he felt the vibrations of cars from a
distance and could safely dash away.

The infamous LouLou-beloved and feared.
