Reflections on Freedom – July 4th
Yesterday, the Republican-led House passed one of the most
devastating spending bills in recent memory—one that celebrates wealth and
power while further harming the vulnerable. Like many, I felt a wave of
grief, anger, and helplessness.
What kind of freedom are we celebrating when so many are
struggling to survive?
What kind of independence is this, if we cannot care for each other?
And yet—today, I return to a deeper truth.
Because real freedom isn’t handed to us by governments.
It’s something we remember in our bones.
It lives in the soul.
Spiritual freedom says: No
matter what the outer world does, I can choose how I meet it.
I can meet cruelty with compassion.
I can meet injustice with fierce
love.
I can meet despair with the
quiet knowing that light is still here—and I am part of it.
This doesn’t mean bypassing the pain. It means transmuting it.
So on this Independence Day, I am declaring my soul's sovereignty.
I free myself from hopelessness.
I free myself from the illusion that the powerful always win.
I free myself from waiting for someone else to fix it.
Instead, I recommit to the real revolution:
The one that starts in the heart.
The one that whispers: You
are here on purpose. Keep going. Keep loving. Keep rising.
May we never forget that true power is spiritual.
And when we act from that place, we become unstoppable.
In hope, in love—
Linda
