As many of you know, I teach piano here in town. I taught at U/Mass Boston, was a pianist on call for the Boston Lyric Opera, and I write reviews periodically for the Boston Musical Intelligencer. I have had many transfer students over the years, most from private teachers . Those students needed at least a year or two for me to get them up to speed. I also had transfer students from the Suzuki Method which I was singularly unimpressed with. But this summer I have a transfer student from the Yamaha School and I am blown away by his knowledge. He is only eight years old but he has a passing knowledge of solfege, keyboard harmony, and theory including the proper names for chord inversions! He needs a lot of technical help, but that is easily done. This system goes from 4 years old through 12 years old. I strongly recommend it for anyone looking for high quality piano lessons for young children.
