Dear Lynne,

A good question. These are “tactical demonstrations,” not re-enactments.
There are several reasons for making the distinction. For one, although we
know generally how events unfolded on April 19th, we do not know them in the
degree of detail that would be important to presenting them as historical
replicas. For another, men on both sides died that day on this ground, and
depicting that in a "re-enactment” for theatrical purposes might seem
disrespectful. Not least, in order to make this an event safe for visitors
(and re-enactors), we need to assure safe separations among visitors and
participants, and that means the movement of re-enactors cannot necessarily be
identical to what we know probably happened.

All that said, what visitors will see, hear, and smell from swirls of drifting
gun smoke will be as close to contemporary accounts of the events as we can
safely manage. Visitors will be enveloped in the events, just as the residents
of Lincoln would have been on the historic day.

I might note there will be over 800 British soldiers, American militia and
minute men, and fleeing citizens taking part in the drama tomorrow. An event
not to be missed.

Subject: [LincolnTalk] Tactical Demonstration?

Hello Lincoln,
Can anyone tell me if the Tactical Demo is a reenactment of the fighting or
simply a display of the weapons? I read the Minuteman Park description but am
still unclear.

Thanks for any more info!
