Dear Lincoln,

My husband Clint is returning as the middle school baseball coach this
spring, and I’m returning as his assistant. Due to overlap with
club/travel and Parks &Rec leagues, the school team has really struggled to
field a team in the last years. Last year, we fielded a team comprised of
6th and 8th graders. More than half the team were beginners. Did we win?
No! Did we have fun, meet personal goals, get to know new folks, and learn
a lot along the way? Absolutely! Even if your child has never played
before, if they want to learn, we are willing to teach them. Some things
to know about us:

1. We believe in equal playing time.
2. We try to make sure that kids play the positions they want. This isn’t
always feasible every game if we’re in dire need, but we do try.
3. We are happy to stay late whenever possible to allow kids to work
further on skills if they want to hang around.
4. Clint tries not to raise his voice - he is not a ‘yelly’ coach - unless
he needs to be heard or someone is potentially in danger. If you went to
any of our parks and rec basketball games, you saw how he prefers to coach.

5. For pitchers, he will absolutely keep track of pitch count, even across
leagues, but parent/child must relay the information to us. He will not
let a child go over max pitch count, all leagues considered, if he is
aware.

Please, if your child is interested in playing or learning, please
encourage them to sign up! The signup sheet and required forms are on a
table just outside the Reed gym. They can also be found in the school
cafeteria.

Warm regards,
Terry Kay Epperson
