us about your experience!! We will make copies of the writings and give them
out at the Gala.
My mind has wandered back to the beginnings of SSEF and how it got started.
I am very thankful for the Board of Codman Farm at that time as it was because
of them that SSEF started....this is briefly what happened...
Twenty-Five years ago, there was an article in the Boston Globe about the "Lost
Boys from Sudan" coming to Boston. This inspired me to figure out where a few
could live and what they would do.
Somehow a connection with Codman Farm was made....Kit Carmody was the Board
Chair at the time and David Ries and John Leclair worked with me about this
dilemma. The Codman Farm Board offered that three of the "boys" could live at
Codman Farm and defray the cost of the rent by working on the Farm. At the
time John Ritchie was the Superintendent of Lincoln Sudbury High School. He
agreed that the young men could come to school at LS which indeed they did! The
International Rescue Committee wo resettled some of the "Lost Boys" picked
three Sudanese who went to LS and lived at Codman Farm. Both LS and Codman Farm
were instrumental in the ongoing organization that has brought services to the
South Sudanese community for the last 25 years.
I am forever thankful to these incredible people. Their generosity is and was
overwhelming. I can't thank them enough- and the people who they represented.
Their ability to take a risk brought so much support (mostly from Lincoln
people) for the last 25 years to this very vulnerable population. I am so
grateful to the Codman Farm Board, Lincoln Sudbury High School, the
International Rescue Committee and the people from Lincoln who made this all
happen. I will never forget....gives me hope.
