Hi Gabby,

If it makes sense for you, I would second Andrew's suggestion, even a few initial consulting sessions could be very helpful in figuring out how to navigate things and provide some relief to what can otherwise be a pretty stressful situation

I have worked with Your Elder Experts (https://yourelderexperts.com/) which is under the umbrella of JFCS. They have assisted with a range of things relating to both of my parents over many years, including guidance on assisted living and in-home care.

Best,

Dear Gabby,
I recommend hiring a professional geriatric care manager to assist you.  These services are not covered by insurance, unfortunately, but we found it to be enormously helpful.. A geriatric care manager is skilled at assessing and understanding the needs of individual cases and have broad knowledge of and familiarity with local providers of all kinds.  They offer a wide range of services and you can choose those that you need. In our instance, our care manager (now retired) worked with several placement agencies to help us find just the kind of care you seek.  She helped developed the scope of work based on my mother's circumstances, screened and interviewed prospective workers, and then brought us only the finalists for us to meet and choose.  It saved me a huge amount of time conducting such a search and she was much better qualified than I to evaluate the candidates. Over six years, as Mother's needs changed or workers left, she did several such searches for us.  For some clients, geriatric care managers provide direct supervision of care staff, such as when the adult children live far away.  In our case, we used her just for searches.
Here is the professional association for geriatric care managers:

(formerly the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers)

Good luck,

I am seeking recommendations for care for my mother in her 80s. She was living independently until a recent complication from a procedure. She will need mobility assistance, help with dressing, light housekeeping/meal preparation, and companionship. Ideally, care would begin on January 6 (or sooner), M-F, from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Thank you in advance for sharing any leads!
