Insurance is an issue. You can usually check your insurance for a list of in-network pharmacies. In my case, West Concord was not included, although some of the other independents were.

I used to use an independent pharmacy. Insurance stopped paying for any drug that I was taking for more than 30 days. I would have to go to a chain pharmacy to get it. I assumed the chains paid kickbacks, went to conventions with pharmacy benefits managers, or something like that. Whatever the reason it was a firm policy. My drug was a generic so there was not much money involved.
Maybe if I had a different insurance policy and a different local pharmacy I would have had a better experience. I guess you don't know until you try. Don't be surprised if you get steered to another pharmacy.
John Carr For anyone looking to get away from the corporate pharmacies, West Concord Pharmacy in Concord has been an all positive experience for us. We moved to them after CVS in Concord gave me the wrong dose of antibiotics in a situation that mattered (CVS gave me a very low dose meant for dermatology instead of the high dose needed for Lymes Disease). Fortunately, I noticed. We had noticed West Concord before that when we were able to schedule Covid and flu vaccinations earlier than what we were finding with CVS and Walgreens. We noticed them again when our insurance company let us know that we could fill a prescription there more cheaply than where we were trying to fill it (either CVS or Walgreens). I don't remember the circumstance behind that one, but the difference for that particular drug was significant enough that we decided to keep West Concord as a backup at that point. The one downside is that their hours aren't as generous as CVS and Walgreens, but after the antibiotic issue, we've made them our go-to rather than our last resort.
Warm regards, Terry Kay
