Carol: your suspicions are well grounded: you can easily find electricity rates
lower than Eversource’s without using an “advisor."

You can do that yourself by going to this page on Eversource’s website, which
explains everything you need to know, then follow their link to a clear,
transparent list of quotes from dozens of alternative suppliers.

The list sets forth each competitor’s pricing, how long the contract runs,
whether it is cancellable, and whether the electricity comes from 100%
renewable sources.

There’s no need for an “advisor,” and many purported advisors who contact
people are just shills for one of the competing providers, exploiting
customers. The last thing those people want to do is show you the lowest cost,
100% renewable alternatives that you can easily see for yourself on the online
list.

That’s why legislation to ban providers and others from contacting customers
makes sense; although legislative proposals going beyond that and banning the
online list of lower-cost options itself, would unnecessarily cost
Massachusetts customers a great deal of money.
