Volunteer Needed – Alternative Member for the Historical Commission, Historic District Commission, and Brown’s Wood Historic District Commission The Select Board is seeking an interested volunteer to act as an alternative member on the Historical Commission (LHC), Historic District Commission (HDC), and Brown’s Wood Historic District Commission (BWHDC).
The LHC, HDC, and BWHDC meet monthly, typically on the first Tuesday of the month. The LHC administers the town’s demolition bylaw, assessing (1) whether a building or structure (not in one of the town’s historic districts) which an applicant proposes to demolish, has historical, cultural, and architectural significance to the town, (2) if so, whether the existing building or structure is preferably preserved versus the proposed replacement, and (3) if so, work with the applicant to reach a mutually-agreeable resolution within the 12-month demolition delay period triggered by the finding. The HDC and BWHDC administer the town’s historic district bylaw, assessing whether proposed alterations to the exterior of buildings or structures in one of the town’s historic districts are appropriate based on the history and architecture of the building or structure. The alternate member will participate in each monthly meeting.
