I think that is a brilliant idea to ask for the input from the current and
near term senior population in town. Maybe those over 55. Find out what
is important to them today, not 5 or more years ago. I know other groups
want to share the space but let’s find out how seniors look at the benefits
of a new center compared to the costs and the resulting tax hikes.
Especially after the tax hikes from the school that I hear is overbuilt and
underutilized.

Also, I just finished the book Paved Paradise- how requirements for parking
spaces and parking garages have killed our cities and town. Low income
housing is not being built in part because of mandatory new parking space
requirements. mandatory new parking space requirements are creating urban
and suburban asphalt deserts that go unused much of the time and result in
storm water floods. The book reports there are now as many as six parking
spaces in the country for every car. I beseech everyone on the select
board, zoning board and community center board to find time to read that
book or at least get the gist of it. It is directly relevant to the
community center and the housing initiative. Maybe the library can get a
few extra ebook or audio copies.

I look at the parking spaces at the stone church and am baffled how there
is inadequate parking. Except maybe for 2 hours on Sunday morning. I hope
we aren’t following blindly nonsensical parking requirements (nonsensical
is my take after reading Paved Paradise) that are destroying communities.
If It is dangerous to cross the street can’t a crossing light be installed?

But, like Olive Kitteridge, I understand nothing.
