Dear Conservation Commission, I disagree with the premise going around that "Lincoln should do what surrounding towns do". It seems to be often "the big irrefutable justification" for why Lincoln must change, specifically its permitted usage of trails. However popular or common as some behavior is, that does not mean it is the only way, the only right fair way. BTW history is full of such examples across broad swaths of society and governance where the popular way was the wrong and unjust way.
It is false to think that, if the experience offered in some town or even small area of a town is not the same as elsewhere, it is then being unfair. For example, basically some part of each user group has to do some travelling to find their desired trial experience and some part of each group has little travelling needed to find their desired but different trial experience. We would just be shifting the demographic, and still not achieve universal fairness over the region. Or even just for Lincoln residents. I recommend putting the brakes on usage changes for a year before any changes are promulgated by the Conservation Commissioners. This does not negate all the fine effort the Commission and others have put into this issue. There is still just too much to consider, for example: the "how, who and when and the funding" to evaluate if the changes are good or damaging and need to be undone and procedure all this. Isn't this needed? It will take some time to develop and put into place. And then what funding will well be needed to do the evaluation - having such funding would be a prerequisite to making changes. Besides being logical... we need this to get "buy in" on the changes as a wide consensus, in place of disagreeing factions. sincerely, Gordon Woodington
