Dear Neighbors,
In 2005, I had the privilege to teach for a month in Madagascar, and I met a woman named Ony who now works for an NGO called Ankizy Gasy, fighting hunger and illiteracy in Madagascar. Since Madagascar rarely makes the news in the US, you may not know that Madagascar has suffered two disastrous cyclones recently (see: https://www.reuters.com/business/environment/madagascar-death-toll-cyclone-batsirai-rises-80-state-agency-2022-02-09/) . Normally Ankizy Gasy feeds 440 children that the foundation helps support with school fees and meals, plus children at 3 different schools where they often receive their only full meal of the day. With schools closed, Ankizy Gasy finds themselves trying to get food to the families of these approximately 1000 children. Some families are coming to Ony’s office to receive rice, and she and the foundation’s social worker are traveling to the homes of farther flung families. Yesterday, she learned that two of the children the foundation supports were arrested, accused of stealing 18 kg. of rice and a cooking pot. One of the children (pictured below) is 13 years old, an orphan, and has siblings to help. Therefore, I feel compelled to write asking you to make a donation in ANY amount. Even $5 will go a long way to helping feed these children and their families at this very difficult time. You can donate quickly at https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=HLBH42YE64TV2 using PayPal or a credit or debit card. Please be aware that this is an overseas NGO, so your donation will not be tax deductible, and the amounts are in Euros ( xe.com is a handy conversion site). I know we all have causes near and dear to our hearts, but if you can make even a small donation to this worthy cause, I would be so grateful. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Warmly, Kim [image: 273032125_489189626136825_7608187686232588307_n.jpeg]
