Thanks for sharing this information, Katherine. It looks like a great program, well worth supporting!
For the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Lincoln and Weston support for car expenses (car repairs, car insurance, and missed car loan payments) is the second largest expense after rent payments. It is a really tough situation when a client's car is not worth repairing anymore. One incredibly generous person on Lincoln Talk and one St. Julia Parish member each provided funds for down payments. Unfortunately Second Chance Cars is only for veterans and returning citizens. We once got offered a used car that someone was willing to pass on but in contrast to Second Chance Cars we don't have anyone who could work on the car before we pass it along to a client. If anyone has any ideas or leads on how we could support clients who need to buy a car, please let me know. I am sure this will happen again in the future.
