Did the repo init in /tmp using ~/bin/repo (from armv8 clean install)
then instead of doing
bash jenkins-setup/init-and-build.sh
I did
cd /tmp
repo init --quiet -u git://git.linaro.org/openembedded/manifest.git -b
\ master -m default.xml
--repo-url=git://android.git.linaro.org/tools/repo
then both repo sync OR newlyinstalled /tmp/.repo/repo/repo sync
give teh same error
