This is a useful thing to know about, thanks. Given that the packaging
currently contains the full config in plaintext and I expect that
jcrigby's skeleton packaging also does this, I don't think that this is
a problem that needs solving right now.

This would be one trick that we could use with the plaintext config
too.

My opinion is that we shouldn't make this kernel specific. We should put
this info somewhere else (use Vcs-* perhaps?) so that we can provide
this information for other packages too. The kernel isn't the entire
universe after all.
