Just found the fix for the upstream X-Loader and I'm now able to use u-boot with ehci with it. It seems to be even more reliable than with the older one. Patch: https://pastebin.linaro.org/88/ Already sent upstream, will confirm if it also fixes some EHCI issues we have and try to make a SRU.
