Hmm ... just made a patch going the other direction:

 lp:~asac/linaro-image-tools/boot-snippet-cleanup

IMO, not requiring initrd feels something that we would want anyway
sooner or later. But no strong opinion for this cycle either way.

BTW, do you know why the boot.cmd line for beagle IMAGE_FILE case used
root= rather than boot_snippet? was there a bug in qemu about initrd
or just a follow up hack of not using initrd there?
