I don't know if this was your problem, but there were some problems with the various versions of the daily builds and linaro-media-create that didn't match up. For me though, the 20100915-1 daily build, flashed with revision 92 of linaro-media-create booted on my xM, so you might try those versions (or newer). I haven't tried qemu though.
