many thanks this helps. But the real world is a bit more difficult than the SSCCE. Besides the time changes there are a lot of measures where the rhythm group waits. So we find something like:

   \time 3/4
   R2.*63

With you help I get the first line of rests and the last line. I could circumvent this by splitting the 63 measures into groups of tens.
