The Manual 3.1.4 seems to say that one can place [ . . .] anywhere to start and end beams, but when I do this to a file that otherwise works, it chokes.
"However, the remaining bracket-like constructs, described with the word 'Marks' in the table above together with ties and tuplets, do not have to nest properly with any of the brackets or bracket-like constructs. In fact, these are not brackets in the sense that they enclose something - they are simply markers to indicate where something starts and ends." In my file, this works: \time 5/4 \repeat volta 2 { \times 4/7 {<d' a'>4.. ^\markup {seven against five} a'8} \times 4/7 {d'8. a'4} \times 4/7 {d'16 a'4.. a'16} \times 4/7 {d'4 a'8.} \times 4/7 {d'8 a'4..} This doesn't: \time 5/4 \repeat volta 2 { \times 4/7 {<d' a'>4.. ^\markup {seven against five} a'8}] \times 4/7 {d'8. a'4} \times 4/7 {d'16 a'4.. a'16} \times 4/7 {d'4 a'8.} \times 4/7 {d'8 a'4..} Christopher Brooks violinist 925 Virginia Avenue Lancaster, PA 17603 717-291-9123 cbro...@orpheus-acoustics.com
