I think that if you're using it on single files (and not, say, with lilypond-book), there shouldn't be a problem. At least I haven't noticed anything untoward. But understand that the way the new grob is built up with its new properties and event-class and such is not done in a sound way. There is currently no proper user interface for doing this sort of thing in an .ly file.
