They just show they are too specialised before and too comfortable after. This is an intellectual quality to search around the field you are working in (and engraving is indeed an important crossing of graphical and musical art), and this is an intellectual quality to recognize that minority is not synonym of false. I bet most of composers have no idea of history of intellectual property in music, no idea of history of engraving... I know many composers and conductors who have no idea of organ (indeed a very important instrument in history of composition and orchestra) And have no idea of difference between improvisation and composition before Mahler and R.
