Greetings everyone, I eventually managed to implement a new command to enclose text within a rounded box.
Feel free to have a look at commit c9cb25dee5d1019b325bbc9da6cf080124bcd0b6; comments appreciated. The shape of the corners can be changed using a #'corner-radius property that I had to make up. Otherwise, it works like \box, by looking at 'thickness, 'padding and 'font-size.
