It's also possible in Lilypond - just add the picture as an EPS markup. The syntax is:

\markup { \epsfile #1 #1 #"filename.eps" }

Also see the documentation - 8.1.6 Overview of  text markup commands.

If you have your image as a bitmap, Inkscape is a good piece of free software which allows you to save as .eps
