I don't remember having read such a thing; on the contrary when you create a transparent object, it does takes an empty place. ; as for the all-invisible setting, it doesn't apply to the very first time signature (whether it's in a \score or a \markup block); so removing the Time_signature_engraver is clearly the solution here. > I still don't know why the solution I had suddenly stopped working, though! > Any offers? IIndeed, I've just tested it myself and it seems that the first time signature visibility was introduced in 2.11.
