From your description, I get the impression you cannot download
the .tar.bz2 file. Is that right?
What browser or software are you using for download? Safari? Which
application is giving you the error? What is the address you are
downloading from? (something like http://download.linuxaudio.org/
lilypond/binaries/darwin-x86/lilypond-2.10.20-1.darwin-x86.tar.bz2)
Are you intel or ppc?
That is a start. If you are past that, then please provide some more
detail
