I'm not sure I agree with this conclusion. The scan that was provided shows two of the stem-up notes aligned. I suppose that that could be an engraving error from the scanned piece. I'm not sure where one goes to find out if the two notes should be aligned or should be separated (which the voiceFive construct does quite nicely). If the piece in question is "properly" engraved, then we might want to have LilyPond produce similar behavior. If not, then there's no reason to go after it. BTW, the scanned piece shows a rising beam on the second set of beamed notes, while LilyPond's is horizontal. This is also an engraving difference that might want to be adjusted, or perhaps not. It all depends on the quality of the scanned piece.
