Kennan is the standard work in English today. Also excellent is Alfred Blatter's book Orchestration and Instrumentation (or maybe I have the title backwards), which contains many contemporary examples and a chapter on voices. It's poorly edited in some spots, but quite comprehensive. Best, -- Marnen E.
