In contrast to the rest of LilyPond, the MIDI output support is fairly
rudimentary and also above all, most of the aspects of how the MIDI
file is generated is hard-coded into the program, so if you want to
do this change, you would have to modify some of the C++ code.
However, there are several other programs available that can be
used to modify MIDI files, see for example
