I want to change the default value of expand-limit rather than override it within my "voice" part that I put all the notes in. I could put it there without much difficulty but the way I lay my parts out it feels wrong for it to go there.
Is there any way I can change its value within the Score or Staff context, and have it take effect at Voice level? I did try \set MultiMeasureRest.expand-limit = 1 which seems logical, but it blows up because the parser thinks the "-" is a minus sign not a hyphen (or something like that). Should I possibly have #' or something in there? On a more general level, the use of \override seems quite common. It would be nice to be able to change the defaults - there are various places where lilypond and I disagree as to what is "normal". I don't remember seeing anything about it in the manual, if someone will tell me how to do it I can write up a paragraph or two to document it.
