I recommend to upgrade to the latest stable version, 2.8.3.

(On the other hand, even if you manage to get the program
working, you will probably find it more or less useless,
since a MIDI contains only a small part of the information
that's included in the printed score. Also, you may get into
problems with note durations, unless your MIDI file was
produced my some other notation program.)
